Garage sales are goldmines for finding audio equipment. More inside.
My brother has been putting together a stereo system to play vinyls. This is what he found this summer.
Guy said he paid close to $400 a piece for these somewhere around 1971. They sound pretty amazing, and he parted with them for $5. Not $5 each, $5 for both. They are Sansui SP-2000's. Seem to be either reviled or revered by internet audio snobs. The guts behind the hideous cover.
4-way speaker. 12" Woofer, two mid range, two tweeters and a super tweeter.
Then got this for $10. Yamaha CR-600. Vinyl is supposed to sound best through an analog receiver rather than a modern digital. And holy shit does it sound good.
Next he is on the look out for a Technic's turntable. Right now he is using an RCA that is about 10 years old that I gave him. It sounds really good though, and supposedly the internals from that RCA are still used in other record players made today.

We've got one of these bad boys, you're right, the only way to truly appreciate Vinyl is on old analog gear.

Very nice. That is beautiful. I know he has been on the lookout for a Marantz.

There's just something magical about these old marantz receivers, the blue glow, the soft touch of the radio tuner dial and of course the sound is amazing. They're also very heavy and very well made. I believe when these were new it was just about the best piece of equipment you could buy without mortgaging your house and buying studio grade equipment.

Can't remember the last time I heard the name Sunsui...
Running a Yamaha YP-211, through a CR420, to a pair of Cerwin Vega D3s here. :)
Picked up all three separately (minty) for about $350 a few years ago. Absolutely love it.

I never find anything good at garage sales - only old kid's, women's clothes, kitchen pots and pans, old toys, really really old junky screwdrivers and wrenches.
Keep that wooden speaker grill! It's classic! It's a lot of the magic of the look of the old speakers!
